Our will is one of our higher mental faculties, and it’s our mental faculties that distinguish humans from the rest of the animal kingdom. It’s your faculties that permit you to identify, pursue, and enjoy the results that you want.

Your mental faculties include:

Perception, imagination, will, memory, reason and intuition.

Your will gives you the ability to hold one picture in your mind and to exclude all other images. This is important because we think in pictures. The dominant image we consistently hold in our mind is the reality we create in our lives. We must hold the image of what we want in spite of what’s going on around us.

It’s easy to have faith in your dream in the beginning and near the end of the journey. But when the initial excitement wears off, and the end is nowhere in sight, things may sometimes appear quite bleak.

  • Like when you get turned down for a loan on your dream house…
  • When you run out of money before you can launch your new business…
  • Or when you get a medical report that isn’t what you hoped for.

Your will helps you focus and concentrate on where you are going, not where you are. The more you practice developing your will, the stronger it becomes. Faith is a crucial part of the creative process which can help you will your dreams into reality and help you live a more fulfilling life.

Faith and fear both demand that you believe in something you cannot see. Still, you can choose what to believe. Fear cannot exist in the presence of real faith. Faith is not hope. Hope looks forward. Faith knows it has already received and acts accordingly.

In her best-selling memoir, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying: A Life Transformed by the Dearly Departing, Bronnie Ware lists the following as the #1 regret:

“I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”

When people realize that their life is almost over, they see how many of their dreams have gone unfulfilled. Rich DeVos, who provides this month’s quote, fulfilled his dream: he’s the co-founder of Amway.
